How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?

Here's a little #throwbackthursday action for you.

My favorite movie of all time is The Sound of Music (and pretty clearly has been for some time).  In case you have not yet heard, NBC is remaking the movie in a live performance with Carrie Underwood as Maria and - groan - Stephen Moyer as Captain von Trapp tonight.  I am fully prepared for a train wreck, but I'm still hoping for the best.  I think Carrie is a fantastic singer and performer, but worry she can't pull off the flighty hot mess that made Julie Andrews' Maria so endearing.  More importantly: who decided Bill Compton from True Blood should play the Captain?!  I can't see this casting as anything but atrocious, and have a feeling I am going to cringe-laugh my way through every song he sings, including my beloved Edelweiss.  

I think I'm going to need some a lot of wine tonight.

Am I being too harsh?  Who else is looking forward to it (which I am, despite major reservations)?
